Tell us your story.
Nominate your neighbor.
Bridge-builders are people who create relationships that cut across the lines of difference, and often across lines of hostility, misunderstanding, or conflict.
Anyone, no matter what their occupation or identity, can be a bridge-builder by helping to forge ties across what would otherwise divide us: borders, bias, language barriers, socioeconomic status, religion, and more.
We believe there are untold stories of bridge-building all across Dallas. Help us celebrate them.
Stories matter.
In 500 words or less, write a story about a "neighbor" who you consider an exemplar of bridge-building. This "neighbor" can be a person you know, someone in your community, a person in your family or ancestry, a figure of local historical importance, etc. You can even nominate yourself! Sharing gives us permission to publish your story so other people will be inspired, too!
Answer the following questions in your story:
-
Who is the neighbor you're nominating as a bridge-builder?
-
What does bridge-building mean to you, and why are they an exemplary bridge-builder?
-
What is the nature of their bridge-building work?
-
What inspired you about them and their work? (If nominating yourself, what inspired you to take on your work of building bridges?)
-
What was their impact on the wider community?
Criteria:
-
The person can be living or deceased.
-
The exemplar person must be a former or current Greater Dallas resident.
